Recently, soft matter manipulation is increasingly attracting attention due to the commercial significance of products that are complex mixtures of components in many application fields such as, soft macro/micro-robotics, water collection, medical diagnostics, and drug delivery.
The future M.Sc. thesis worker will work on the development of a robotic system including hardware and software dedicated to the manipulation of the gel-like substance. The objective is to manipulate a gel-like substance through shape forming using visual servoing.
The position on intelligent robotic gel-like manipulation and threading is opened for Robotic Instruments group (https://www.aalto.fi/department-of-electrical-engineering-and-automation/robotic-instruments) at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation in Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering. The position is available from summer 2021 May/June-August. Upon completion of the work and based on the quality of the applicant, the candidate can potentially continue as a M.Sc. thesis worker.
The salary is based on the university salary scheme.
Requirements and details
As a successful applicant you should be highly motivated in developing practical systems and have a background in one or several of the following fields: robotics and automation, automation software, software engineering, or closely related fields. The applicant is expected to have strong programming skills, hands-on experience and willing to work with robotics and mechatronic systems. Previous experience in one or some of the following areas is appreciated:
– Software design (e.g., C++/C#, Matlab, Python)
– Mechatronic design and measurements
– Visual serving
