Postdoctoral fellow position in machine learning and/or edge AI in The Department of Technology at the University of Southern Denmark
The Department of Technology and Innovation at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a Postdoc position in machine learning and/or edge AI. The position is available earliest from August 1st, 2022 for 2 years.
The position is located within the Section SDU Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation (TEI) at the Faculty of Engineering on the international campus Sønderborg. The section unites engineering, innovation management, and entrepreneurship scholars in joint research projects and teaching. The focus is industrial engineering and how to generate innovative products and the production of the future. The research is on innovative solutions across the entire product lifecycle, but with a focus at sustainable, digitalized and automated production.
SDU TEI is embedded in a region with a strong network of companies, including some of Denmark’s largest global industrial players (i.e. Danfoss, Linak, Siemens, Vestas) and many manufacturing SMEs. Projects currently running by the group cover a range of cutting-edge topics within Smart Factory – Industry 4.0, digitalisation and automation. The group publishes in leading international journals on these topics, such as Journal of Manufacturing Systems, Journal of Computer Integrated Manufacturing, International Journal of Production Research, Journal of Assembly Automation, etc.

Job description
The position is highly related to a research project “Energy Efficient Heterogeneous AI-Framework for Smart Mobile and Embedded Systems” funded by ITEA4/InnovationsFond Denmark. The project aims to develop a framework that targets significant improvements in the energy efficiency of AI solutions, enabling their dissemination in embedded systems in mobility, communication and automation industries. The candidate’s main responsibility is to develop and implement machine learning algorithms in an industry use case developed in close collaboration with Danfoss Drives A/S.
Successful candidates will drive internationally competitive research and work closely with the industry. The candidate will also contribute to providing outstanding education and students supervision as well as supporting external research funding applications.

We expect
A highly motivated, and outgoing person, who is able to work in an international, interdisciplinary team. The candidate must be a team player and at the same time able to work independently. The successful candidate is active in publishing in engineering journals.
The candidate must have a relevant PhD in IT engineering, computer science, edge computing or similar.
The ideal candidate has knowledge, skills and competencies in artificial intelligence and experience of AI applications on various platforms. To be more specific, the candidate should have several of the fields listed below.
- Machine learning algorithms
- Proven track-record of successful AI implementation
- Desirable Python knowledge

- Data analysis
- Digital twins from design to operation
- FPGA programming

Conditions of employment
The Post Doctoral researcher is a 2-year position.
