A Senior Lecturer in Crop Production Science with focus on agricultural crops is open at the Department of Crop Production Ecology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala.
The Department of Crop Production Ecology, together with the Department of Ecology, constitute an inspiring research environment at the Ecology Centre on SLU’s Uppsala campus. We educate and conduct research on plants grown for food, feed and energy. Research and education have an emphasis on production with focus on crops grown on agricultural land and their interactions with the surrounding environment as well as with related ecological and socio-economical systems. Our research investigates how various production methods and cultivation environments and systems influence yields, other ecosystem services, product quality and the surrounding environment. We educate within the fields of plant production, plant ecology, weed biology and crop production systems from a sustainability perspective. The Senior Lecturer position is within the topic of crop production systems science where research often is conducted in collaboration with other scientific disciplines. This is done together with stakeholders within the agricultural sector in order to address relevant questions about the many dimensions of crop production sustainability. The main body of teaching is within the Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science programs, which can lead to a degree in agronomy. We also teach within other programs that are related to sustainable production.
SLU is one of Scandinavia’s largest centres for ecological research and we offer a dynamic and excellent research environment supported by a modern infrastructure. The Ecology Centre is part of the Faculty for Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences. Research, education and environmental monitoring and assessment within agriculture and environmental studies are conducted here with sights on Agenda 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Our approach is based in the natural sciences with significant interactions within the political sciences and the humanities, creating good opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations.
