A funded 2 year postdoctoral position in ageing and Alzheimer’s disease is available at the Faculty of Medicine, The University of Oslo.

More about the position
The fellowship period is 2 years, and is devoted to carrying out a project on the role of ageing in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) with a focus on mechanism of altered mitophagy/autophagy in AD initiation and progression. Novel strategies (genetically and pharmacologically) that turning up mitophagy will be developed and their funcitons in treating AD animal and cell models will be explored. Novel C. elegans (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30742114/) and mouse models (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34789895/) of AD.
The candidate will be having a unique opportunity to work in two leading autophagy laboratories, the Evandro Fang Laboratory at the University of Oslo (https://evandrofanglab.com/ https://www.med.uio.no/klinmed/english/people/aca/evandrof/) and the Per Nilsson Laboratory at the Karolinska Institute (Sweden) (https://ki.se/en/nvs/per-nilsson-group).
Qualification requirements
- A PhD degree in lifescience, biochemistry, molecular biology, neuroscience or similar fields;
- Fluent oral and written communication skills in English;
- Extensive hands-on experience with at least two of the following experimental techniques: molecular biology (RNA, DNA work, qPCR), Western blotting, confocal immunofluorescence imaging, handling mouse and to perform immunohistochemistry,
- Candidates with experiences in working on simple animal models such as Drosophila or C. elegans will be a privilege;
- Candidates with prior knowledge about ageing or neuroscience will be prioritized; and
- Candidates should have at least 2 peer-reviewed research papers published in mainstream scientific journals.
