At the Division of Digital Services and Systems at Luleå University of Technology, we have a need to employ an associate professor in Information Systems with a focus on information security. The department includes the subject information systems and the center formations Center for Distance Spanning Technology and Center for Security in Society and Critical Infrastructures. The research within the department focuses on an overarching level on sustainable digital transformation from societal, organizational and individual perspectives. We do this by conducting teaching and research in the areas of responsible digital innovation, data-driven decision making and information security.

The subject includes studies, and development, of digital practices, resources, artifacts and systems. At Luleå University of Technology, research focuses on developing knowledge about, and influencing, the ongoing digital transformation in society with the goal of contributing to a sustainable society where we take our starting point in local conditions for achieving global change. Within the subject, we conduct teaching in four educational programs: Systems Science, Digital Service Development, Computer Science and Information Security.

Subject description
The research subject Information systems focuses on the design and use of information technology in relation to humans, organizations, and societies.

Tasks
As an associate professor in Information Systems with a focus on information security, you are responsible together with professors and others in the subject for the development of the subject at the undergraduate-, advanced- and research education level. As an associate professor, you are expected to strengthen our research and education profile in information security and contribute to establishing the field internally both in the form of existing and future educations and as a research area on our campus in Luleå. An assistant professor is expected to contribute to the university’s development work, to ensure that external research funding is provided to the subject and to be available for management and administrative assignments. As an assistant professor, you are involved in the subject’s research and education with a focus on a strategic, operational and tactical perspective of information security. The research aims to better understand, develop and disseminate knowledge about socio-technical factors that affect information security from these perspectives on an individual, organizational as well as societal level. The group conducts research primarily on the development of theories, methods and tools with emphasis on the application, preservation and evaluation of confidentiality, accuracy and accessibility for both private and public organizations’ information and communication technology (ICT).

The position means that you will:

  • Be responsible for, developing, teaching and examining courses in information security
  • To follow the subject’s international development and to supervise students and PhD students
  • Work with research tasks in information security (eg search, lead and collaborate on research projects, communicate and disseminate research results through academic publications)
  • Collaborate with the surrounding society

Eligible to be employed as an associate professor

Eligible to be employed as an assistant professor is one who has demonstrated both scientific skill and pedagogical skill. As much care should be given to the examination of the pedagogical as to the scientific skill.

To meet the requirements for employment as an assistant professor, the applicant must have:

  • presented a research profile with clear progression after the dissertation and scientific contributions corresponding to at least two doctoral dissertations
  • acted as an independent researcher, for example via:
    • research-related positions of trust such as an external expert or examiner
    • experience of applying for and being granted external funding for research and development projects in competition
    • participated in national and / or international research projects and published together with researchers in research environments other than its own
  • have experience of supervision at postgraduate education level and act as assistant supervisor for at least one doctoral student for at least two years, unless there are special reasons for otherwise
  • demonstrated pedagogical skills
  • completed higher education pedagogical education corresponding to 7.5 credits, or alternatively have acquired corresponding knowledge
  • ability to interact with the surrounding society, for example by:
    • make new knowledge available to the surrounding society
    • incorporate societal needs in research and / or educational contexts

 

Assessment criteria
The following assessment criteria will be applied (weighted equally):

– Scientific proficiency in the subject of information systems with a focus on information security (with a management perspective)
– Pedagogical proficiency

Other assessment criteria (weighted equally)

– Knowledge within information security
– Experience within System science (e.g. databases, programming)
– Experience within qualitative and quantitative research methods
