The Department of Social Sciences, Technology and Arts at Luleå University of Technology has currently approximately 260 faculty members doing research and teaching in business administration, entrepreneurship and innovation, music and theatre, and social sciences including economics. The Economics unit is part of the division of social sciences which also include the subject areas jurisprudence, political science and history. The research of the Economics unit has an international focus, a strong emphasis on applied policy-orientated research and research profile towards natural resource, energy and environmental economics.
Subject
Economics, as a research subject, analyses the allocation of scarce resources. The research is towards natural resources, energy and environmental economics. It applies microeconomic theories in the analyses of the functionality of energy and raw material markets, and how it affects decision-makers and policy design.
Project description
We are looking for a researcher with a doctoral degree who wants to work within the research network Bio4Energy. Bio4Energy is one of the Swedish governments strategic research areas directly founded by the government. In the network, researchers from Luleå University of Technology, Umeå University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences are participating. In addition, researchers from Sweden’s research institute (RISE) participate and several firms and organisations. The network is multi-disciplinary and work towards efficient and environmentally friendly processes, technology and markets based on woody feedstock.
Work tasks
Your work as a post doctor includes:
– Research in economics towards bioenergy issues (at least 80% of full-time). The research is conducted in close collaboration with Bio4Energy, and you are expected to actively participate in the network’s activities.
– Possibility for teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, supervising undergraduate theses and assisting supervisor for PhD students (at most 20% of full-time).
Qualifications
In order to be eligible for employment as post doctor you must have a PhD or a foreign de-gree equivalent to a PhD in economics. A doctoral degree awarded no more than three years before the application deadline provides a useful qualification. Candidates who have been awarded a doctoral degree at an earlier date may also be considered if there are special grounds, for ex-ample, different types of statutory leave of absence.
General qualifications include scientific merits and documented experiences from the stipulated research profile. The scientific competence has the highest importance for the appointment.
The assessment criteria are (in order of importance):
– Well-documented experience of economic research towards bioenergy issues.
– A strong interest in economic research towards bioenergy issues.
– Good communicative and collaborative abilities with the surrounding society.
– Proactive initiatives and ability to work in multi-disciplinary research environments.
– Excellent communicative skills in English, both spoken and written.
Additional merit is if you have documented pedagogical skills, such as university courses in pedagogy and teaching/supervising experience from higher education.
