The Department of Social Sciences, Technology and Arts at Luleå University of Technology (LTU) consists of 13 research subjects, including Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Entrepreneurship and innovation were established in 2006 and today has about 30 employees with a broad competence base. Our goal is to be an international center for the development and dissemination of future ideas in entrepreneurship and innovation. Entrepreneurship and innovation include organizational development with a particular focus on business development based on innovative products, services, business models and production solutions, as well as ways to manage and organize operations. The research group collaborates with large national and international companies, small and medium-sized companies (SMEs), and other research groups. Research results are produced in close cooperation with industry and other actors.

Subject description
Entrepreneurship and Innovation comprises organizational development with a specific focus on firm development based on innovative products, services, production solutions or management modes.

Project description
The Entrepreneurship & Innovation research group and leading MedTech company Getinge AB has initiated a strategic research collaboration on “Innovation management in MedTech”. The MedTech industry is currently undergoing rapid industrial transformation related to digitalization, AI, and automation. Sustainability is a top strategic priority, and competition from low-cost countries is intense. To meet these challenges and opportunities, new innovate product- and service offerings, business models, and organizational configurations are needed. There is also a need to increasingly look beyond organizational boundaries and form new kinds of collaboration with ecosystem partners.

The two PhD student positions aims to support Getinge in its strive to further strengthen its innovation capabilities. Important topics include – but are not limited to – digitalization enabled value creation (including digital platforms and the role of digitalization/connectivity for offering new advanced products and services), Business ecosystem and alliance management strategy (including relationship building with ecosystem partners and effective integration of external knowledge) as well as Designing effective global R&D organizations (including organizing dispersed innovation work). Both positions will be scoped in detail together with incoming candidates.

Duties
As a PhD student you are part of a research group where you, in collaboration with others, conduct scientific work. It includes collecting and analyzing data, and writing scientific articles, together with others in the research group and individually. Equally important is the practical side of the project where you will engage closely with Getinge for improving innovation and innovation management in practice. A PhD student position also involves participating in postgraduate courses, presenting research nationally and internationally, and participating in seminar activities within the research group. Departmental duties such as teaching is also included (max 20%). Completed postgraduate education (consisting of both approved postgraduate courses and an independent doctoral thesis) results in a doctoral degree in entrepreneurship and innovation.



Qualifications
We are looking for you who preferably has a master’s degree in industrial engineering and management, in innovation management, in business administration, or equivalent. You need to have a strong interest in the research project/topics described above. The position requires excellent capabilities in English (oral and written). Good knowledge of the Swedish language is a merit. The positions require the ability to work closely with the rest of the project group, and a strong individual drive to independently plan and manage one’s own work and be responsible for carrying out tasks within given time frames. The employment as a PhD student is about developing new knowledge so creativity and ability to cope with uncertainty and ambiguity is at the forefront. The industrial nature of the research project also implies that you need to have good social and communication skills as well as being good at managing different stakeholders’ expectations.

Information
Employment as a PhD student is limited to 5 years (including teaching and other department duties of max 20%). Salary is paid in accordance with current agreements. Placement: Luleå. Starting: as soon as possible upon agreement.
