Job description
As a part of a European initiative including musea and research institutes and in collaboration with Gent University, we are starting a project on the generation of atomic oxygen species by non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasmas, meant for application in cleaning works of art. The project will focus on the development of the plasma source and its characterization in view of electrical properties, O atom production, electron properties and similar. The project will involve using spectroscopic methods and detailed analyses of the results. It will be performed at TU/e under joint supervision with Gent University.
Your key responsibilities:
- Development of a plasma setup suitable for atomic oxygen production, in collaboration with Gent University.
- Development and usage of several spectroscopy setups.
- Detailed analysis of the spectroscopic results, including the Thomson scattering signal.
- Supervision of master and bachelor students within the project.
- Interaction with teams from the plasma physics and the flow community.
- Publication of scientific results in peer-reviewed journals and in conferences. We are aiming for at least 3 articles before the PhD thesis is written.
Job requirements
Your profile:
- You successfully completed higher education studies: Master of Science degree or Diploma in Physics.
- You have practical experience in plasma physics research.
- Fluent in English, both in written and oral form.
- Able to write scientific texts in a reasonable amount of time.
- Ability for independent work as well as teamwork.
Conditions of employment

- Additionally, an annual holiday allowance of 8% of the yearly salary, plus a year-end allowance of 8.3% of the annual salary.
- Should you come from abroad and comply with certain conditions, you can make use of the so-called ‘30% facility’, which permits you not to pay tax on 30% of your salary.
