PhD positions
There is a vacancy for 3 PhD positions at the Department of Psychosocial Science, Faculty of Psychology, University of Bergen. All 3 positions are for a fixed-term period of 4 years and funded by the University of Bergen. The planned start date is during autumn 2022 (or as soon the hiring process is concluded.)
About the project/work tasks:
The department will use these PhD positions to strengthen the ongoing research fields at the department. The main supervisor needs to be an employee at The Department of Psychosocial Science.
The Department of Psychosocial Science has 8 research groups and most of our employees are linked to one of these groups, but we also have employees who are part of research groups at other departments at the Faculty of Psychology.

- Bergen sleep and chronobiology network
- Research group for public mental health

Being appointed as a research fellow takes place on the basis of previous education and former scientific work, as well as quality and relevance of idea and plans for the research projects. The research project that the candidate is applying for will usually be further developed in consultation with a relevant research group and supervisor.
The research fellow appointed will have her or his workplace in Bergen, at The Department of Psychosocial Science.
Qualifications and personal qualities:
- The applicant must at the time of application either hold a master’s degree in Psychology or a cand.psychol degree.
- For admission to the doctoral programme, grade B or above is normally required for the master’s thesis
- Work independently and in a structured manner and have the ability to cooperate with others.
- Proficiency in both written and oral English
- Personal qualities will be emphasized. Ambitions and potential will also count when evaluating the candidates.
About the PhD positions:
The duration of the PhD position is 4 years, of which 25 per cent of the time each year comprises obligatory duties associated with research, teaching and dissemination of results. Candidates cannot be employed in a PhD position for more than one fixed-term position at the same institution.
About the PhD programme:
As a PhD Candidate, you must participate in an approved educational programme for a PhD degree within a period of 3 years. When your qualification for the position is evaluated, you will also be evaluated for admission to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Psychology.

This currently amounts to an annual salary of NOK 491 200 before taxes.Further promotions are made according to qualifications and length of service in the position. - Applicants with foreign education must enclose certified translations to English or Scandinavian if the original Diploma and grade transcripts are not already in one of these languages. The applicants must also enclose a confirmation from NOKUT that the education is recognized to be in accordance with the Norwegian master’s degree. The review from NOKUT may take some time and the application should be sent to NOKUT as soon as you have decided to apply for the position.
