About the position
Position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow in signal processing and acoustics available at the Digital Signal Processing and Image Analysis group (DSB), Section for Machine Learning, Department of Informatics, University of Oslo.
No one can be appointed for more than one Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Oslo. Starting date as soon as possible.
The DSB research group has six full-time and six adjunct positions. We perform research over a wide range of applications in image analysis and deep learning, as well as in digital signal processing/acoustic imaging. There are about 25 Postdocs and PhD students in the group with financing from a variety of national and international funding agencies, as well as from industry.
The fellowship period is for three (3) years and is devoted to carrying out research in acoustic signal processing and image reconstruction.
The main purpose of a postdoctoral fellowship is to provide the candidates with enhanced skills to pursue a scientific top position within or beyond academia. To promote a strategic career path, all postdoctoral research fellows are required to submit a professional development plan no later than one month after commencement of the postdoctoral period.
Job description
In this postdoctoral position, you will get ample opportunities to develop your research in acoustic image reconstruction together with us in the DSB group and our partners.
Your research should primarily be in medical ultrasound, but other acoustic imaging or array signal processing applications might also be appropriate. The position is focused on methods and algorithms for enhanced image reconstruction in acoustic imaging. Examples of thematics are non-linear effects and tissue characterization, ultrasound elastography, dual-frequency systems (including SURF), adaptive beamforming and aberration correction, full-waveform inversion/imaging and coherence-based methods.
Our laboratory and computing facilities will allow to apply and evaluate the developed algorithms on real recorded data collected by our group and partners (e.g., ultrasound, sonar, and seismology datasets), as well as on synthetic datasets generated from wave-propagation simulations. Your work should integrate with other PhD and Postdoc projects in the group. A motivating factor for pursuing research in acoustic imaging lays in the fact that enhanced medical imaging helps to improve health care and diagnostics.
The candidate shall publish research results in international peer-reviewed journals in collaboration with the DSB group and its research partners. This position is funded by the Department of Informatics and is placed with the DSB group with office in the Ole-Johan Dahl Building, close to the Forskningsparken metro and tramway station in Oslo.
