Position Description

The Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary invites applications for a 3-Year Limited Term (which may be renewed) Position in Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources (OBHR) at the Assistant/Associate Professor (Teaching) level. The anticipated start date is August 15, 2022, or at a mutually acceptable date. 

Applicants must have:

  • A relevant doctorate degree (e.g., organizational psychology, leadership development, human resource management)
  • Evidence of effective teaching in OBHR, with an emphasis on leadership, at the post-secondary level
  • Experience using active teaching approaches in the classroom
  • A willingness to take on substantial service roles within Haskayne including, but not limited to, course coordination and implementing strategic initiatives (e.g., new program development). 
  • Experience and evidence of the effectiveness of such previous service roles is essential.

Appointment requires evidence of effective teaching, professional experience, and professional/educational qualifications appropriate to the area of OBHR. 

Evidence of teaching effectiveness in different programs (e.g., graduate and undergraduate), evidence that the applicant can participate in a wide array of teaching activities, and evidence of an exemplary record of service is preferred.

Appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor (Teaching) require evidence of successful undergraduate and ideally graduate teaching effectiveness in a business school setting. The duties of an instructor will also include staying up to date with pedagogical approaches and content in the discipline. Some experience of previous service roles is required.

Appointments at the rank of Associate Professor (Teaching) require evidence of substantial experience in and effectiveness of undergraduate and graduate teaching in a business school setting, as well as innovation in teaching methods showing that the individual can initiate and participate in a wide variety of teaching activities. An example of this evidence would be publications in the scholarship of teaching and learning. The duties of a Senior Instructor will include staying up to date with pedagogical approaches and content in the discipline, as well as writing for scholarly publication. Substantial experience of previous services roles is required.

Expected Duties:

  • Core undergraduate and MBA teaching in OBHR topics, especially leadership.
  • Ability to work with colleagues on projects related to teaching and learning, curriculum development, and implementation.
  • Service activities within the Haskayne with an emphasis on new programs.

The normal teaching load for an Assistant/Associate Professor (Teaching) in the Haskayne School of Business is four courses per semester (eight courses per academic year). Extensive service activities come with teaching releases.
