The Aalto University School of Business invites applications for an
Assistant Professor in International Business
The position is to be filled at Assistant 1st or Assistant 2nd level of the Aalto University tenure track system and is located in the Department of Management Studies. The position is full-time and the preferred starting date is January 1, 2023 but a later date may be agreed upon. Performance evaluation for being granted tenure takes place after 3 or 4 years depending on the career stage of the applicant (https://www.aalto.fi/en/tenure-track/tenure-track-career-path).
Your role and goals
The candidate is expected to conduct and supervise high-quality academic research in International Business, to provide excellent research-based teaching, to follow the latest advances in the field of International Business, to provide service to Aalto University and the broader scientific community, and to take part in societal interaction and international collaboration in the field.
Your network and team
The International Business (IB) unit comprises a thriving and dynamic community of faculty, PhD students and staff. The four primary areas of research are: Management of internationally operating firms; International people management; Sustainability in cross-border business; and Qualitative research methods in IB. We offer a BSc degree in International Business, an MSc degree in Global Management, and a PhD degree in International Business that are internationally competitive in terms of their quality, innovativeness and timeliness. Faculty members also contribute to other programmes of the School. The IB unit has a long history, and over time members of the group have engaged in extensive research collaboration with industry and society at large. The closeness of this relationship is a distinctive advantage, as it is not easily replicated elsewhere in the world, where more arm’s length academic-practitioner relationships are often the norm.
The IB unit belongs to the Department of Management Studies that offers a dynamic environment for cutting-edge research and high-quality teaching. The field of management was rated #31 in the world in the Shanghai ranking (2021). Faculty members conduct research across a range of management disciplines including organization theory, organizational communications, and entrepreneurship, collaborating with internationally acknowledged scholars from all over the world. The department educates strategic leaders with an ethical mindset for the contemporary global business environments. The department has approximately 40 full-time faculty members and 20 post-doc researchers of whom a quarter have an international background. In addition, several distinguished international visiting professors collaborate with the faculty.

Your experience and ambitions
The ideal candidate will have the potential to achieve excellence in research, to develop into an outstanding teacher in our programmes, and make a societal impact through their research and teaching.
The applicant is expected to have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and to have a fluent command of English (no Finnish is required). The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their research, teaching, and academic activity in the scientific community. The evaluation of applicants will be supported by bibliometric analyses using e.g. Google Scholar. Evidence of ability and desire to attract grant funding is welcome. The position is open to candidates in all areas of IB.
