Description:
The Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a full-time three-year Contractually-Limited Term Appointment (CLTA) in the area of Music and Culture. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream and is expected to begin on January 1, 2023 and end on December 31, 2025.
Applicants must have earned a doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., D.M.A.) in music or a related field at the time of appointment or shortly thereafter with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. The successful candidate will teach in U of T Scarborough’s Music & Culture program, which comprises three areas of focus: Community Music, Music & Society, and Music, Creativity & Technology. The successful candidate would teach a combination of lecture- and practice-based courses (e.g., Foundations in Musicianship, Introduction to Community Music, and Small Ensemble: Amplified and Digital) according to their expertise.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and supervising students in the undergraduate degree program, fulfilling other professional and administrative activities related to teaching, and participating in curriculum development and departmental and university committee work in order to contribute to program and departmental initiatives. We especially welcome candidates with experience working with, teaching or mentoring diverse groups of students, and who have demonstrated the ability to foster diversity on campus and within the curriculum or discipline.
Candidates must have teaching expertise at the post-secondary level, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practice and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities. Evidence of excellence in teaching, a commitment to excellent pedagogical practice, and the capacity to teach a wide range of courses in Music and Culture can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (with required materials outlined below) as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.
