The Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute and Department of Oncology at the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar Position in Genomics and Immunogenomics .
Job Description:
Dr. Bahlis, Associate Professor, Charbonneau Cancer Research Institute is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Associate with molecular cloning laboratory advanced skills for ongoing research and development projects within his laboratory which studies the genome and immunogenome of multiple myeloma at the bulk and single cell levels. The Postdoctoral Associate will perform a variety of duties with the goal of supporting and moving forward the laboratory research projects. The successful candidate is required to have ample experience in molecular cloning for gene expression and silencing in mammalian cells using viral plasmids.
The position is available beginning September 1, 2022 for an appointment period of 12 months.
This position requires working on multiple fields of the research project at any given time. The work routinely involves meeting deadlines for reports, presentations, and writing manuscripts. The work environment is professional and fast paced. The position requires that the candidate works independently, exercises a high degree of judgment, and requires little or no supervision.
The primary purpose of the position is to design and conduct laboratory research in multiple myeloma and genomics including cloning strategies using viral plasmids (Lentiviral or retroviral) to develop novel chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapies . The incumbent will be responsible for successfully performing the following techniques: cloning studies, routine tissue culture, biochemical viability assays, flow cytometry studies, sorting and manipulating primary peripheral blood and bone marrow cells.
In addition to the technical aspects above, the Postdoctoral Associate will also contribute to research and funding strategies, identifying and helping to secure funding opportunities and shaping the vision, direction and structure of the group. They will have an expert knowledge of the hands-on work performed as part of the operations and development activities of the group.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have completed a Ph.D degree and will have superb wet lab research training in Molecular Biology, Microbiology or Virology. Demonstrated expertise in plasmid extraction, molecular cloning (lentiviral or retroviral cloning) for gene expression or silencing and cloning skills are mandatory requirements. The Successful candidate will have a proven track record in the submission of peer-reviewed publications in science and medical journals as well as in the preparation and submission of grant applications.
