Position Overview

The Department of Radiology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Research Manager, the Research Assistant (RA) will work evening and weekend shifts at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

The Research Assistant (RA) will assist with participant recruitment, collection, organization and management of cognitive and brain imaging data. The RA will also help disseminate research findings to the broader community through our website and contribute to peer reviewed publications.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • MRI scanner operation and imaging data collection from young children and research volunteer participants
  • Participant recruitment and screening
  • Assist in the organization, processing and analysis of brain imaging data
  • Other duties, such as updating website, as required

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education required
  • BSc in Neuroscience or related discipline (Biology, Computer Science, Physics, Psychology) an asset
  • Experience working with people in health, research or educational environments
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other staff
  • Ability to work in a team environment and also to work independently
  • Ability to work successfully within a timeframe
  • Ability to self-motivate and take initiative
  • Resourceful, energetic, self-directed and creative
  • Strong people skills
  • Aptitude and interest in working with children
  • Experience in cognitive or neuropsychological assessment of children will be an asset
