Do you know how to inspire students? And would you like to share your knowledge of academic and research skills with a lively international classroom? Then you have a part to play as a workgroup teacher. In this meaningful job you will contribute to the wellbeing and education of the new generation of psychologists, in a green and collegial environment.
We are looking for enthusiastic and professional work group teachers to enable our first-year Psychology students to get off to a good start, and to teach them the required skills.
As a work group teacher in the first-year Psychology courses Academic Skills for Psychologists (AS) and Research Project 1 (RP1) for Psychologists, you will teach communication skills and research skills that students require to successfully participate in academic programmes and, later on, work as scientist-practitioners. Through a wide range of tasks and activities, you will train students in the above-mentioned skills on the basis of a fixed psychological topic from your area of expertise. This topic should be related to one of the three main domains in psychology that are being studied at Radboud University: Brain and Cognition, Development and Mental Health, or Behaviour and Environment.
The AS and RP1 courses both consist of an intensive educational programme in which you will supervise weekly 2-hour workgroup meetings with a maximum of 20 students per group (you will supervise two or three groups: 0.29 FTE and 0.40 FTE respectively*). In addition, a substantial part of your job will consist of assessing interim and final products. You will also function as a mentor, i.e. keep track of students’ study progress. The hours are not evenly distributed over the months: there is a peak in workload when you are both teaching and grading. You have to adhere to the RU holiday schedule (summer holidays from mid-July).
Weekly work meetings with fellow teachers and the coordinators of the AS/RP1 courses will be held on Thursday afternoons. Work group meetings will take place from Monday to Wednesday. Introduction team meetings will take place on 29 August and 1 September 2022.
*It may be possible to combine teaching AS and RP1 with other teaching and coordinating duties. When applying for AS/RP1, please indicate whether or not you are interested in teaching other courses, and how many hours a week you will be available on average.
