Department of Energy and Technology
The Department of Energy and Technology at Soil, Water and Environment Center (MVM) offers a stimulating and interdisciplinary research environment with both national and international focus. We have expertise in technology and systems for sustainable food production and bioenergy. Within the field of methodology, we have extensive competences in Systems Analysis including Environmental Systems Analysis and LCA, Biometrics (statistics and mathematics with application in biological systems) as well as Automation.

Duties:
We are looking for a Post Doc who can develop models for dynamic simulation of energy systems with “power-to gas” (PtG), i.e. production of hydrogen with intermittently produced electricity. The work includes development of models for forecasting electricity prices on the spot market to be used for balancing production, storage and use between solar pV cells, batteries, PtG and the electricity grid. The work also includes design of energy system scenarios with dimensioning of technical solutions involving biogas plants and methanation technologies in order to evaluate opportunities and limitations in terms of technology choice, economy and environmental impact for a transportation system with electric and gas vehicles.
The work is conducted in collaboration with researchers from Switzerland and with Uppsala Vatten and Region Uppsala as stakeholders within an ERA-net project. You are expected to have a leading role in the project and to participate in teaching and cooperate with a PhD-student in the topic area.
Qualifications:
As postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral degree that is three years old at most. The applicant should hold a PhD in technology or engineering with a specialization including energy systems. You must have documented skills and experiences in computer-based modeling of energy systems with e.g. Matlab/Simulink or other software, preferably where “power-to-gas” is included. Experience of biogas systems for anaerobic digestion of biodegradable materials and knowledge regarding Swedish and European energy systems is an advantage. The applicant must have the ability to independently initiate, lead, carry out and complete research projects and to generate and publish the results in international scientific journals.
The holder of the position must be able to communicate fluently in English (in writing and orally). Good knowledge of Swedish is an advantage. We put great emphasis on personal traits. Analytical and problem-solving ability, motivation and ability to work independently as well as in a team are considered important qualities for this position.
Place of work:
