The Max Planck Institute for Brain Research (MPI for Brain Research) in Frankfurt/Main is a vibrant research institution in basic biological and medical research, with a focus on understanding the brain. Our institute counts approx. 300 employees in three research departments, four research groups, and several administrative, scientific and technical service units.

We are seeking for the nearest possible date an experienced and motivated PR and Graduate Education Officer (m/f/d) on a temporary basis, as part of a parental leave replacement for 18 months, if applicable with the possibility of a 6-month extension.

Your responsibilities

Your area of responsibility as PR officer (m/f/d) will include all PR activities of the institute, from conception to implementation. This includes composing press releases on current research topics and media monitoring, answering press inquiries, managing the institute’s social media channels as well as the website and intranet, creating flyers and brochures, and organizing outreach events for the press and the public. You will be a contact person for the central PR department of the Max Planck Society and participate in the Society’s PR network.

In your role as graduate education officer (m/f/d), you will be responsible for the coordination of the PhD program at the MPI for Brain Research. This includes assisting PhD students in matters relevant to registration, progress reports and graduation, including administrative matters in cooperation with the university, organization of regular thesis advisory committee meetings, and scientific events. In addition, you will be responsible for promoting the graduate program, recruiting students and coordinating the course program in close cooperation with the scientific faculty.

Your profile

We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive person (m/f/d) who works independently and has excellent communication and organizational skills. Fluency in English and German, both written and spoken, is mandatory. Preferably, you hold a graduate degree in the life sciences, have already worked in a scientific or educational environment, and have a good understanding of the German academic system. Prior experience in the PR sector (writing press releases) is desired. Experience with content management systems is advantageous. Our ideal candidate (m/f/d) loves sciences, and has a talent to communicate our passion for research to non-scientists.

Compensation is in accordance with the TVöD (German public service) salary scale. Social benefits correspond to those of the public service.
