Job Code: 2022-PostDoc-DevelopmentalBiology-2490Job Offer from March 02, 2022

The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, Germany, is an international research institute focused on cell and developmental biology. Currently about 500 employees work at the institute, where half are from abroad with 53 nations represented. MPI-CBG has twice been awarded the title “Best Place to Work” (Academia and postdocs) by the journal “The Scientist”.

We are offering a Postdoctoral Position (m/f/d) in Developmental Biology.

Job Description

The group of Claudia Gerri is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral candidate in Developmental Biology. The Gerri lab is interested in studying how cell lineages are established, and how they communicate with each other and the surrounding microenvironment to build an organ. Our goal is to understand how the environmental cues and the neighboring tissues influence early cell fate decisions, and how progenitor cells interpret these signals and react, thereby affecting their surroundings. We aim to study a very enigmatic process of mammalian reproduction: the development of the placenta.

In order to do so, we leverage

  • mammalian preimplantation embryos, genetics and quantitative confocal imaging
  • 3D in vitro organoid culture system, live imaging and microfluidics to model development.

Your qualifications

The candidate should hold a PhD in a relevant discipline and should be familiar with embryonic stem cell culture, CRISPR-Cas9-genome editing and genotyping, microfluidics. Ideally, we seek a person with experience in organoid culture and possibly mammalian embryo handling. Experience with live imaging and light-sheet microscopy is a plus.

Flexibility, team spirit, organizational and interpersonal skills with good knowledge of the English language are required.

Our offer

The full-time position is available immediately for an initial period of 2 years with the possibility of extension. Salary and social benefits will be in accordance with the regulations of the German TVöD Bund (salary agreement for public service employees).

The Max Planck Society strives for gender and diversity equality. We welcome applications from all backgrounds.

Please submit your complete application:

  • a cover letter indicating the motivation to apply for this specific position,
  • a CV including a publication list,
  • a concise description of previous research accomplishments (<1 page),
  • and contact details of at least 2 approachable academic referees
