A position as Laboratory Manager is available in the research group of Professor Kenneth Chien. The team consists of physicians and scientists who are focused on studying pathways of human cardiogenesis and its implications for regenerative medicine. The research goal is to find novel pathways and principles for regenerative medicine in general, and to repair damaged cardiac muscle cells in particular.
We are seeking a Laboratory manager with an extensive background in experimental laboratory work. In addition to the entry requirements, the candidate will be responsible for organizing the common resources of the laboratory, including supervising and improving lab work as well as handling invoices in the E-invoice system. You will work closely with researchers and assist in the introduction of the laboratory for new staff, guest researchers and graduate students as well as with the development and improvement of experimental methods.
Your profile
The successful candidate must have a strong background in molecular biology and must hold a M.Sc. or a Ph.D. degree, as well as experience in lab management. The candidate’s personal skills will be highly valued.
Specific background and skills required:
- MSc or PhD in Molecular Medicine or Cell Biology
- Excellent in vitro laboratory skills including molecular cloning as well as protein production and analysis (i.e., Western blotting) techniques.
- Histology, immunohistochemistry and cryosectioning experience.
- Experience in training people.
- Ability to create and maintain the chemical and biological database
- Ability to maintain good relationship with the department and animal facility as well as with external collaborators.
- Support of all the projects in the lab.
- Strong ability to negotiate with sales representatives.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- The applicant must speak and write fluent English.
Meriting skills and knowledge:
- Fluent in Swedish, both speaking and writing.
- Experience with writing ethical applications in Swedish for animal research and managing contacts with ethical boards and authorities.
- Previous experience working with mice, with at least a FELASA B certificate or equivalent.
- Administration and management skills.
- Previous experience in managing a medical research laboratory, including courses in waste management and laboratory safety, experiences with maintaining and overseeing chemical inventory and risk assessments, and experience with the KLARA system for chemical inventory.
- Emphasis will be placed on personal qualities as responsibility, flexibility, teamwork and ability to solve problems.
- Live-imaging techniques, experience working with amphibians.
