The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) is looking for a UX designer/web designer with a special interest in designing new types of web applications and engaging web sites aimed at a broad public.
Appropriate candidates will show a demonstrated capability in designing complex web applications and will have significant experience in UX/graphics design, concept development as well as advanced knowledge in the implementation of such concepts in visual mockups, working prototypes and final products. You will work tightly with a diverse group of historians and a technical team of seasoned developers to shape new virtual exhibitions following the model of the successful exhibition on the first World War (https://ww1.lu) and to develop other types of web sites and applications.
The position offers the opportunity to work in an international team with renowned experts and to create new exhibitions on a variety of topics that excite audiences of all ages.
The University of Luxembourg is a multilingual, international research University. The candidate will be based in the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH), a research centre for the study, analysis and public dissemination of contemporary history of Luxembourg and Europe with a particular focus on digital methods and tools for historical research. It serves as a catalyst for innovative and creative scholarship and new forms of public dissemination and societal engagement with history in Luxembourg.
Your Role…
- Design and implement wireframes, visual mockups and prototypes for new virtual exhibition projects (web and mobile applications)
- Create UI inventories, establish HTML layouts and develop CSS stylesheets in synergy with the development team
- Follow an iterative approach that includes participatory design principles to engage users and stakeholders throughout the project
- Work as part of an interdisciplinary team at the C2DH in an independent and proactive way
What we expect from you…
- Demonstrated experience in the design of complex web applications. Having experience in working directly within a team of designers and developers is considered an advantage
- Demonstrated experience in creating web contents HTML5 / CSS (JS is a plus) using the most recent ideas and methods in the field
- Interest in engaging with development practices to support our development team
- University degree in media/information design science or in a related discipline
- Great communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and demonstrate methodological, organized, pragmatic and effective approaches to your work
- Fluency in English is required, knowledge of French and/or German are considered an asset
