At the School of Business, Society and Engineering our students are studying to be for example Bachelors or Masters of Engineering, political scientists and business administrators. Here we have the research specialisations of Industrial Engineering and Management, and Future Energy. Our work takes place in cooperation with and in strategic agreements with companies, organisations and public authorities in the region.

Position description
Five research organisations, together with more than 30 companies and public actors, are part of a new Competence Centre within Resilient Energy Systems. The aim is to increase knowledge and competence about the transformation of the Swedish energy system, towards high reliability and resource efficiency, as well as low environmental impact. Focus is on knowledge of how sector couplings between transport infrastructure, industry and the built environment, including business models and organisation, can create a resilient energy system. The Competence Centre is coordinated by the Future Energy Centre at Mälardalen University.
We are now looking for PhD students for projects within the Competence Centre within Resilient Energy Systems. The projects concerns scenario analysis of electrified logistic and production sites and energy positive and self-balancing cities and districts, and smart production planning of both heat and electricity.
Qualifications
Only those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education may be appointed to doctoral studentships. For futher information see Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100).
The applicant is required to have a master’s degree in a relevant engineering area.
The applicant should have knowledge and ability in modelling and simulation. The position requires motivation for research, good oral and written communication, knowledge in English and a will to work in a multidisciplinary context and in collaboration with external partners.
To be admitted to postgraduate education (Chapter 7, 39 § Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility in accordance with either of the following:
- Passed a second-cycle degree (for example, a master’s degree),
- Completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 second-cycle higher education credits, or
- Acquired, in some other way within or outside the country, substantially equivalent knowledge
In addition to the above, there is also a mandatory requirement for English equivalent to English B/6

Merit
Knowledge in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer and power engineering. Knowledge and experience of modelling and simulation of energy conversion processes and energy systems. Experience of multidisciplinary work and collaboration between academia and external partners.
