About the position
NHH in Bergen, Norway, invites applications for a position as Associate Professor in Strategy with focus on sustainability at the Department of Strategy and Management
We are seeking candidates, preferably early in their career, with an ambitious research agenda and strong educational skills within the field of Strategic Management, Innovation and/or Entrepreneurship with a focus on sustainability. Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in strategy or a closely related field from an international accredited institution. You will be part of a strong and supportive team of researchers dedicated to produce research with an international outreach in high-ranked publication outlets. Regardless of whether you excel in conducting qualitative or quantitative research or pursue more process-intensive and/or advanced machine learning techniques, being part of this research team will provide you access to leading Scandinavian private and public organizations, national register databases, and the recently acquired AI server. The successful candidate will also be invited to join the Digital Innovation for Sustainable Growth (DIG) research center.
The faculty at the department is responsible for courses in strategic management, organization theory, entrepreneurship and innovation at the bachelor, master, and PhD level, educating students that are among the most ambitious in Norway. In addition, the faculty takes the lead in courses, modules, and entire programs in the executive education branch, NHH Executive. The successful candidate is expected to deliver high quality teaching on all these levels, including the supervision of master and PhD students. Overall, the position involves teaching on average two courses a year, supervision of students, and various administrative duties. Formal pedagogical education and a well-developed teaching portfolio will be emphasized. Candidates that cannot document at least 200 hours of pedagogical coursework when hired, are offered the NHH programme on basic pedagogical competence and must complete this programme within two years.
At NHH in general, and the Department of Strategy and Management in particular, we encourage faculty to continuously upgrade their academic and teaching skills. This means we provide access to academic and pedagogical training for all who wish to upgrade these skills. Besides highquality research and teaching, we also encourage our candidates to make an impact to society and business at large, and support activities that promote outreach to our stakeholders.
We pursue a model of scholarship with impact to generate research orientations that are both relevant and practical, and aim for publications in premier journals, such as level three and four in the Academic Journal Guide (AJG). For applicants that apply for the position of Associate Professor, the department normally requires at least two accepted or published articles that have a quality equivalent to the standard in a journal at level 3 or higher in the AJG or one article with a quality equivalent to the standard at level 4* in the AJG. Articles invited for “revision and resubmission” in these quality journals may also in special cases be considered.
Documented research and teaching skills will be emphasized in the evaluation of applicants. Teaching skills should preferably be documented in part by student evaluations. We invite the best-qualified applicants to present a research paper at a department seminar and/or give a lecture, in addition to an interview. In the assessment of applicants, international experience and qualifications will be emphasized. In the event of equivalent qualifications, female applicants will be given preference.
