The Department of International Environment and Development Studies (Noragric), Faculty of Landscape and Society at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) has a vacant position as researcher for 39 months related to a new five-year project funded by an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) entitled LANDRESPONSE. This research project will study conflict and migration in the West African Sahel as parallel processes with potentially similar causes.
Within the LANDRESPONSE project the successful applicant for this position will carry out research on why people decide to try to migrate from West Africa to North Africa and Europe.
The researcher will be part of a team led by Prof. Tor A. Benjaminsen.
Main tasks
- Develop a research plan as part of the LANDRESPONSE project
- Carry out field work and data collection independently and in cooperation with other team members
- Actively participate in and initiate academic discussions within the LANDRESPONSE team as well as in the wider research community internationally
- Publish the research internationally
- Undertake some administrative tasks and planning activities related to the project
Competence:
Required Academic qualifications
- A PhD in human geography, anthropology, environment and development studies or other social sciences.
- Proven experience with migration research
- Fluency in academic English
Preferred qualifications:
- Fluency in French
- Ability to communicate in at least one Sahelian language (e.g. Bambara, Fulfulde, Tamashaq, Arabic, Haoussa etc).
Remuneration and further information
The position is placed in government pay scale position code 1109 Researcher, wage framework 24 (salary grade 62 – 66) (NOK 573 900 – 615 000), depending on qualifications. The position follows ordinary meriting regulations.
