Information about the division and the department
The Division of Systems and Synthetic Biology at the Chalmers University of Technology is one of the world leading research environments in systems and synthetic biology. Our research interests involve a wide range of activities from understanding the fundamental operational principles of metabolism and studies of metabolic diseases, to highly applied research directed towards development of new cell factories, e.g. used as next generation drug discovery and production platforms.
Major responsibilities
The main task will be to apply computational tools to address questions related to metabolic engineering of microbes. This involves but is not limited to constraint-based modelling of metabolism, method development, comparative and functional analysis of genome sequences, and integrative omics analysis.
The candidate will carry out independent research in the context of a research group, to regularly communicate results to colleagues, and to disseminate the main conclusions to the scientific community in the form of meetings, conferences and peer-reviewed articles. In addition, the candidate should be proactive, capable of keeping up with the evolving technologies available and motivated to test and implement new protocols.
Qualifications
The candidate must hold a PhD degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Computational Biology, or other related disciplines. The candidate should have a good track-record of publications in peer-reviewed journals. Experience in computational metabolic engineering of microbial metabolism is a merit.
