The Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research in Cologne, Germany is hiring a biological technical assistant (BTA) (m/f/d).

The position is available in the Department of Plant Microbe Interactions, where scientists study the fundamental molecular processes underlying interactions between plants and microbes.

Field of work and expertise

The candidate will work in close collaboration with group leaders and post-doctoral scientists in the Department of Plant Microbe Interactions. The main tasks of the applicant will involve isolating, cultivating, and characterizing microbes and microbial communities. The applicant should be proficient in techniques of microbiology and molecular biology. Experience with plant science is beneficial. Other duties will include maintaining and indexing microbial collections, preparing reagents, and plant phenotyping, both in greenhouses and in the field.

The successful candidate has completed their professional training as a research technician and has already gathered professional experience. We are searching for a highly motivated candidate who is team-oriented and who can work carefully and with attention to detail. The applicant should be enthusiastic about scientific research in an international environment. Good computer skills as well as fluent English are required.
