The Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences is a leading international research institute of exceptional scientific breadth. With more than 40 research groups and some 1,000 employees from over 50 nations, it is the largest institute of the Max Planck Society.

The research group for Magnetic Resonance Signal Enhancement (Dr. Stefan Glöggler) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow (f/m/d) – Biochemist in Magnetic Resonance.

Hydrogenases are an important class of enzymes that are nature’s blueprint for hydrogen activation. Deeper understanding of how these hydrogenases split hydrogen promises to develop new templates for catalysts that solve our energy challenges for the future. In a joint project with Franc Meyer at the University of Göttingen and Seigo Shima from the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Biochemistry in Marburg, we are looking for a motivated postdoc with background in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and protein sciences.

The candidate should hold a PhD degree in biochemistry or related disciplines.

What you will be doing

  • Investigating hydrogenases and their catalytic mechanisms with high field NMR located at the Department for NMR-based Structural Biology by Christian Griesinger
  • Working on protein expression together with Seigo Shima in Marburg
  • Collaborating with Franc Meyer from the University of Göttingen on investigating biomi-metic model complexes and new catalytic templates with NMR

What we offer

  • Emerging field of research with high potential for discoveries
  • State of the art equipment and infrastructure
  • Work in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Further training opportunities and language courses
  • Health management: free fitness and yoga room, sports groups, course offerings for a “moving break”
  • A wide range of offers to help you balance work and family life: on-campus kindergarten places including vacation care, parent-child offices, etc.
  • Initiatives for sustainability and a green environment with a new biotope

Recruitment

The position is initially limited to two years with a possibility of extension. Payment and benefits are based on the German public service pay scale (TVöD Bund) guidelines. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.

The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. The Max Planck Society strives for gender and diversity equality. We welcome applications from all backgrounds.

How to apply

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Please submit your application including cover letter (explaining background and motivation), CV, transcripts, publication record and two contacts for letters of reference preferably via E-Mail as a single PDF file to ausschreibung24-23@mpinat.mpg.de.
