We seek individuals who can demonstrate that they are, or could be, a recognised international leader in the very widest sense of the field of experimental physical chemistry (including, but not limited to, spectroscopy, diffractometry, solid state, surface science, biological systems, physical organic chemistry) with intellectual vision, a publication track record commensurate with career stage, and proven ability to secure substantive research funding. Ideally you should also be able to demonstrate potential for the wider impact of your research through knowledge exchange activities including patents, commercialisation or significant public engagement and policy setting.

The successful candidate is expected to; contribute to shaping our research and training aligned with the University’s overarching research strategy; contribute to the excellent outputs of our four Research Themes (https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/chemistry/research/index.aspx); demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence

The School of Chemistry is home to a lively research community of over 160 PhD students and 70 postdoctoral researchers, and one of the largest and strongest Theoretical and Computational Chemistry groups in the UK. We are located in the main Chemistry Building and Bio-Discovery Institute on University Park, and the world-leading GSK Carbon Neutral Laboratories on the Jubilee Campus. We have state of the art research facilities, which include high field (800/600 MHz) solution and solid-state NMR spectrometers, an extensive suite of XRD instrumentation, EPR, SQUID magnetometry and multiple types of mass spectrometer. Access to the cross-disciplinary Nanoscale and Microscale Research Centre offers further facilities for imaging and surface analysis. We also have strong links to research groups in the Schools of Physics & Astronomy, Pharmacy, Biosciences, Life Sciences, the Medical School, and the Faculty of Engineering.

These roles are available on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours) ; however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours. Job share arrangements may be considered.

We believe that a diverse and supportive environment is the best platform for cutting-edge research and excellent teaching. Our efforts to establish this have been recognised by an Athena Swan Silver award. For these roles we seek individuals who are committed to embracing our approach and who will provide leadership, promote a healthy work-life balance, and create an atmosphere in which all staff and students are valued and feel confident to be themselves.

When completing your application, please provide a name-blind CV that includes employment history, relevant experience, skills and key achievements. This will help us recruit based on your knowledge and skills and not on your background, gender or ethnicity.
