The Corporate Finance team are seeking an Assistant Financial Accountant for a 12-month fixed term contract.  You will work with colleagues across the Corporate Finance team, and other Finance teams across the University, developing your financial accounting and reconciliation skills.

What you will be doing

The key function of the post is to provide integrity to our Balance Sheet reporting and our Cash and Treasury management.

You will be involved in monthly reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.  You will build strong relationships, both internally and externally, and be the main contact for our bankers and lenders.

You will be involved with our year-end reporting preparations and completion, and you will be a key point of contact for audit requests.

Along the way you will be a key contributor to risk management, change management and system implementation projects.

Who you are

  • You are a qualified accountant or studying towards your accountancy qualification (ACA, CA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalents).
  • You understand fundamental financial controls and how they should be working.
  • You have previously prepared monthly management accounts and/or financial statements.
  • You have previously managed professional relationships, both internally and externally to your organisation
  • You have experience of coaching, supporting and challenging colleagues.
  • As a person, you have a natural curiosity, enjoy detail and accuracy, and you easily build good relationships with your team and colleagues.

We are the Corporate Finance team, a small team that sits within a much larger Financial Control and Financial Management team. We are a busy, diverse and vibrant team, looking after the month-end and year-end processes and reporting, audit and regulatory control and reporting, cash and treasury management and the setup of the university’s current finance system, Unit4 Business World.

This role is available on a fixed term contract for 12 months. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours) ; however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week).
