We are seeking to appoint a materials characterisation technician responsible for the provision of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) at the University of Nottingham’s Nanoscale and Microscale Research Centre (nmRC). 

The successful candidate will run the XPS facility and be responsible for the maintenance and operation of our XPS instruments including technical and experimental support to the many users of the equipment. The role holder will routinely provide instrument training in different modes of operation to individuals or small groups. 

A sound knowledge of XPS and experience of XPS data interpretation using peak-fitting analysis software are important in the role.

The role holder will routinely perform detailed characterisation and analysis investigations for internal researchers and external collaborators. 

The successful candidate will complement a multidisciplinary team and provide expertise in materials characterisation and analysis ensuring the teaching and research activities are maintained at the highest level. 

Strong technical, organisational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this role.

This position is offered on a permanent basis and is available from July 2023. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours per week).
