We are looking for a friendly, engaging and enthusiastic person to join the Mathematical Sciences and Computer Science hub in the Faculty of Science Research and Knowledge Exchange (RKE) team. You will work together with colleagues to support research through the lifecycle from the application stage (pre-award) to project management and reporting (post-award) and be responsible for approving costings and project expenditure.
The post is based in the Mathematical Sciences and Computer Science hub, meaning the role holder will work at University Park and Jubilee Campuses.
As a Research Manager you will:
Undertake, manage and approve costings for research grant applications.
- Act as the key point of contact in Mathematical Sciences and Computer Science for research operations including guidance, financial support, costings, administrative support and any other aspects of the research operational needs of the area.
- Partner with central R&I to ensure appropriate monitoring of research activity.
- Provide specialist advice to budget holders on the best use of grant income, including budget and forecast guidance.
- Line manage members of the Research Support team within the hub team.

- Financial management experience
- The ability to motivate, negotiate and influence both individuals and teams.
- Proven project management and problem-solving skills
- The ability to work well under pressure, attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
- A positive attitude to building and maintaining professional relationships with colleagues
A high level of numeracy and proven ability to analyse and manipulate figures and data with ease as well as the ability to work with minimal supervision, prioritising and planning own workload to deliver targets is essential. Experience of research funding processes in Higher Education and knowledge of university and funder systems would be beneficial but not essential.

This post is available on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours); however, applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours.
