We are delighted to be seeking to recruit several new colleagues to join the flourishing Department of Cultural, Media and Visual Studies in the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies at the University of Nottingham. These new colleagues will join a thoroughly interdisciplinary community of scholars with global perspectives and approaches and contribute to a vibrant and collegial research-led learning environment. Our courses position our world-leading research at the centre of the learning experience and prepare our students to be active and adaptive participants in the increasingly complex and technologized cultural, creative and media environments of the future.
One of the appointments we are seeking is a Teaching Associate to make a significant impact within the research and teaching area of Media Studies Education.
Our School thrives through the different ideas and experiences of colleagues, who come from a mix of cultures and backgrounds. We strive to foster a welcoming, inspiring and supportive workplace. We are seeking applications from candidates whose background, experience and identity broadens and enhances the diversity of our existing team and would especially welcome applications from members of groups who are currently underrepresented in the School, particularly Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates. We understand that having a mix of perspectives, lived experiences and approaches to teaching and research enhances our day-to-day work and enriches our School community.
The successful candidate will facilitate the educational experience of a diverse and international student body through cross-cultural community-building activities, pedagogic practice, and pastoral support; deliver teaching in the area of media and communication studies from a global perspective; and contribute to the direction of research programmes within the department. Applicants should have a demonstrable expertise in media studies education which is reflected in a growing national reputation and publication record. Additionally, research and teaching expertise in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:
- Social media
- New participatory media
- Artificial intelligence
- Innovative pedagogic practice
- Diversity
- The Global South
We also especially welcome applicants with language proficiency in Mandarin.
A range of administrative duties to support the operation of the School will also be undertaken including acting as a personal tutor.
Applicants must have a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area and previous experience of teaching at HE level. Applicants should ideally have a track record of high-quality published research.
This is a full-time (36.25 hours), permanent position. Job share arrangements may be considered.
Interviews will be held on 27 July 2023
Candidates should attach a CV, publication list, and a covering letter stating why they are suitable for the role with their application.
