The position
To expand our Linux and Windows engineers product team, we are looking for a (senior) Linux system engineer.

As our Linux system engineer you maintain our hybrid server infrastructure which consists of an on-premise datacenter (Linux & Windows) and a steadily growing cloud landscape. You are the Linux expert in this environment and beside daily operations and lifecycle projects you will participate in automating the environment further with Ansible. You will also be responsible to develop and manage the internal tooling for the environment.

Your main tasks are: 

  • Analyzing technical issues, providing feedback to both internal colleagues and suppliers, managing 3rd line incident & changes, and working on continuous improvement of our Linux server environment.

The team consists of ca 12 Linux and Windows systems engineers and is using the Scrum methodology to manage their work. This team provides efficient, standardized, secure, modern technical IT building blocks by offering a diverse set of computing and storage products/services and technical advice for business (product) Teams and End users.

Job requirements

Who are you? We are looking for a new colleague with the following profile: 

  • Having a flexible and creative attitude, and able to work at Bachelor level; preferably you have a Bachelor’s degree in information management or a technical direction;
  • Must have a recent Linux certification(RHSA,RHCE or others);
  • Proven track record with one or more Linux distributions; (Ubuntu, RedHat);
  • In depth knowledge and experience with Linux management tooling (e.g. Ansible, Docker, Zabbix);
  • Affinity with Microsoft Azure cloud and VMware Vsphere;
  • Basic knowledge of networking & storage;
  • Familiar with an Agile way of working;
  • Availability to work on campus location at least 3 days a week;
  • Willing to participate in a standby service on regular basis;
  • Advanced proficiency in the English language. Dutch language skills are considered a pre.

  • A competitive salary scheme in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities: salary scale 10 or 11, with a minimum of € 2.960,- and a maximjum of € 5.439,- gross per month. The salary level depends on your experience, education and knowledge.
  • On top of this you also receive extra annual holiday allowance (8% in May), an end-of-year allowance (8.3% in December, a socalled 13th check.)
  • You will be appointed for a period of 1 year, with the possibility of extension to continue with a permanent contract.
