Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our ultimate goal is to conduct education and research of the highest quality and relevance to make a long-term difference in society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has over 54,000 students, more than 7,500 employees and a turnover of around SEK 8 billion.
The Department of Materials Theory, which is located in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, offers world-class research in solid state theory, using both numerical and analytical methods. The research is focused on magnetism, electron structures, topological phases, correlation phenomena and materials for green energy.

Duties
The project will be based on spin-orbit torque-driven magnetization switching in 2D magnets. A thorough understanding of the proximity effects between the heterostructures in 2D materials will be made. The possibility of complex spin textures and topological properties will be investigated. This will also include the heterostructure of a skyrmionic lattice and a topological superconductor to explore exotic quantum phases. All these studies will be based on ab initio electronic structure calculations and Hamiltonian models. The parameters of the model Hamiltonian will be obtained from the beginning. The ab-initio code to use is VASP, Rspt and Quantum ATK. The postdoc will interact with experimental groups and other theorists.
Requirements
PhD degree in physics with good knowledge of solid state theory or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in physics. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.
The application should include a description of research interest, CV, list of publications, copies of degrees, and a copy of the thesis if possible. Letters of recommendation can be attached to the application.
