At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical neuroscience, Health and rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology as well as Psychiatry and neurochemistry.

The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology invites applications for a Researcher position at the Department of Physiology.

The advertised position intends in vivo studies, ex vivo/in vitro studies of white and brown adipose tissue, but also analyses of other tissues. The overall aim is to study the function of adipose tissue and its importance for metabolism at the whole-body level to identify new treatment strategies for obesity-related disorders.

Duties

We are looking for a motivated individual with interest and experience in research in the metabolic physiology area. Techniques that will be used in the project encompass blood sampling and tube feeding of mice, work with different mouse models of diabetes, culturing of adipocytes, isolation of primary mouse adipocytes, isolation and functional analysis of mitochondria, histological techniques (embedding, sectioning and staining of tissue, immunohistochemistry/fluorescence and analysis), molecular biology techniques such as quantitative real-time PCR, and tracer techniques for measurements of e.g. glucose uptake/lipogenesis in vitro/in vivo.

Qualifications

To qualify as a researcher the applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant subject (endocrinology/metabolism).

Experience from research within the area of adipose tissue biology, obesity and type 2 diabetes is very meritorious. The applicant is expected to have practical experience of work on adipocytes, adipose tissue, and all above-mentioned techniques. The applicant should be able to show documented experience for the assignment.

We are looking for a person with good organizational skills and who can work independently. It is of importance that the applicant is meticulous, has good collaboration skills and is flexible. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.

Employment

The employment is limited (temporary) for 3 months, 100% of full-time, and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date: as soon as possible or as agreed.
