The EMBL Barcelona site, set up in 2017, is located in the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB), one of the largest infrastructures in Southern Europe dedicated to translational research. The main focus of EMBL Barcelona is tissue biology and disease modelling.
You will be joining an agile, friendly and very well integrated Administration team of appr. 7 colleagues, that is completely committed to facilitating, enabling and fostering science, working together with researchers to achieve the same goals. This position involves working frequently both with administration colleagues and with researchers.
You will support the smooth running of the EMBL Barcelona space. This position requires a willingness to learn and will be provided with hands-on training. Prior experience is an asset not required.
You will report to the Head of Administration EMBL Barcelona and have a close working relationship with the Facility Manager/Health & Safety Officer.
Your role
- Follow up status and contact the relevant person in cases of problems with the infrastructure of the building (e.g. electricity, water, technical gases, etc) or within the Unit space (laboratory space. tissue culture rooms, other technical rooms).
- Support in refurbishments (e.g. project drafting, request for quotes, supervise execution, etc)
- Support with building-related emergencies.
- Ensuring the proper functioning of the scientific equipment of the laboratories and the unit
- Ensure implementation maintenance plan of equipment and overseeing yearly preventive maintenance.
- Support in the implementation and maintenance of a new equipment inventory system
- Supervision, soft maintenance and training of new users on Unit wide equipment.
- Contact relevant persons in case of malfunction of equipment or alarms in critical equipment.
- Support in the purchase of scientific equipment (e.g. requesting quotes, comparing conditions, drafting justification documents, coordinating delivery and installation of equipment, registering new equipment in the database)
- Support the coordination with the PRBB in case of building-wide facility management projects (e.g. PRBB refurbishments, electricity and other checks, annual deep-cleaning).
- Support in health & safety matters (e.g. support the implementation of biosafety or general H&S protocols, risk evaluation, coordination of laboratory waste management).
- Any other tasks requested by the Head of Administration or by the Facility Manager/ Health & Safety Officer.

- Relevant education or equivalent professional training
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish
- Proactive approach, flexibility, service-oriented attitude, start-up mentality, can-do attitude, reliability and good judgement
