We are seeking an impact manager to analyse, manage, and report on data related to the portfolio of major open data resources delivered by EMBL-EBI. The role provides information that supports project management and strategic decision making for the data services portfolio, so requires working closely with senior staff responsible for running the data resources.
The EMBL-EBI delivers open biomolecular data to support life sciences research via resources that are used millions of times each day from users around the world. They operate under diverse funding, partnership and governance models, and play key roles in large international research projects, and European and global data infrastructures.
On a technical level, the resources have deep interdependencies and are run by a staff of around 600 people, organised into teams and larger sections. This is a complex organisation that also has many outward facing responsibilities, for example, providing input and leadership in a variety of forums on matters relating to data management, data reuse, and open science.
Your role
Reporting to Associate Director for Data Services at EMBL-EBI, the Impact Manager will work with functions across the institute to source, curate, analyse, interpret and communicate information on various aspects of EMBL-EBI data resource delivery. The information gathered will support and inform the strategic goals of the EMBL-EBI services. This will require you to work with the Senior Programme Manager and other senior staff across the organisation to prioritise and translate information requirements into specifications for data gathering and analysis. A collaborative approach to the role will therefore be essential. You will perform data analysis and present results in both internal and external management and governance forums. If you are passionate about open science and how best to both deliver and demonstrate the impact of open data resources, then this is a unique opportunity to contribute to the effective management of these services.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Inform strategy and management of EMBL-EBI services by developing and maintaining analytics of various aspects of service delivery
- Engage with a diverse set of teams across the EMBL-EBI and manage systems to gather, curate, validate, analyse and report on key indicators relating to EMBL-EBI data services and impact, including web analytics, science and innovation bibliometrics and impact case studies
- Work closely with the dedicated EMBL-EBI capital project team to develop and maintain impact reporting for the large capital investment programme. This will include developing dashboard reporting for external funders to highlight the progress on project objectives.
- Analysis support feeding into specific strategic projects (e.g. economic impact analysis, responding to external requests for indicator data) and supporting ad hoc queries as required
- Extracting meaningful insights from data and adapting these into narratives you communicate to different internal and external target audiences including EMBL-EBI management and external stakeholders, via reports and presentations
- Supervise consultants or interns, as required.
Closing date: 17 September 2023
- Contract duration: 3 years
