Work assignments
The unit for Mathematics within the Division of FEM (Physics, Electronics and Mathematics) is engaged in education and research in mathematics, primarily related to technical education and applications. Within mathematical research, studies include topics such as inverse and ill-posed problems with applications. Examples of recent research areas include AI, mathematical oncology, image processing, and object identification using Wi-Fi signals. Development of digital educational tools is also an important part of the activities. Much of the work is carried out in collaboration, both internally within the academic institution and with schools in the area.
As an associate professor in mathematics, your main responsibilities include teaching and supervising at the undergraduate and advanced levels. There may also be opportunities for teaching and supervision at the doctoral level. The work involves course design and course responsibility.
You are expected to be actively involved in research within one or more of the mathematical fields in which the unit conducts research, in order to contribute to and complement the existing activities.
You are active in the research community, participate in the division’s activities such as seminars and workshops, participate in research projects, communicate results through academic publications and help attract external research funding.
You contribute actively to the university’s development work. Collaboration is an integral part of the university’s research and educational mission.
Your work includes monitoring developments nationally and internationally within your field of study and other societal developments that are important to your work.
You are flexible and have the ability to move between different types of pedagogical and scientific contexts. You share knowledge and contribute to the working group’s professional development, collegial ways of working and social community. The fact that you are present and active is something we see as self-evident in order to ensure that you are able to perform your duties in an optimum way and enjoy your working community.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate who has received a doctoral degree or has equivalent academic expertise, and has demonstrated pedagogical expertise or other professional skills that are of significance with consideration for the subject and duties relevant to the appointment and duties.
For this employment equal importance will be given to academic and pedagogical expertise.
In terms of pedagogical expertise, the following will be assessed:
- A requirement for the position is demonstrated ability to reflect on one’s teaching.
- Of particular merit is experience in developing digital teaching methods.
- Of particular merit is demonstrated ability for innovative thinking in mathematics education.
- Of merit is experience in working with heterogeneous student groups.
In terms of academic expertise, the following will be assessed:
- A requirement for the position is ongoing research activity after obtaining the PhD-exam.
- Of particular merit is research experience in one or more of the areas where the unit is currently conducting research.
- Of particular merit is documented participation in research networks.
- Of particular merit is demonstrated ability to attract external research funding.
Of merit for the position is
- documented expertise in collaboration in education and research.
