Work assignments

Production Economics is a division at the Department of Management and Engineering (IEI). The division conducts education and research in the field of financial mathematics.

Production Economics is an interdisciplinary engineering subject, which includes the management of resources in different types of activities. The subject focuses on problems in the borderland between economics and engineering, which means that the research is based on the application of mathematical methods from the engineering sciences to problems in management, at both strategic and tactical as well as operational level.

You are active in the research community, participate in the division’s activities such as seminars and workshops, participate in research projects, communicate results through academic publications and help attract external research funding.

The Division of Production Economics conducts education within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The division has a large undergraduate assignment that includes teaching at the master’s programs in Industrial Engineering and Management and Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering in which the division provides master’s profiles in finance and financial mathematics. The profiles are built up by several advanced level courses where the focus areas of Financial markets and instruments, Financial risk management, Derivative valuation with stochastic calculus, Portfolio management, and Financial optimization are important. Special focus is on the development of quantitative methods in these areas.

As a professor in financial mathematics, you will teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Swedish and English, as well as supervise students in the two master programmes. The work includes course design and course coordination responsibility. You will lead the research and contribute to research funding at the division through external funding. The ability to attract external funding is therefore crucial to be able to conduct successful research and is an important basis for merit for this position. The division’s long-term goal is to build a larger research group in financial mathematics.

You are active in doctoral student education at the division and the department by supervising doctoral students and by giving doctoral courses.

You contribute actively to the university’s development work. We would like you to show interest in and participate in collaboration with local society.

Your work includes monitoring developments nationally and internationally within your field of study and other societal developments that are important to your work.

You share knowledge and contribute to the working group’s professional development, collegial ways of working and social community. The fact that you are present and active is something we see as self-evident in order to ensure that you are able to perform your duties in an optimum way and enjoy your working community. 

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated both academic and pedagogical expertise.

For this employment equal importance will be given to academic and pedagogical expertise.

In terms of academic expertise, the following will be assessed:

  • Requirements for the position is documented academic expertise within the areas of stochastic processes, stochastic calculus, and multivariate statistical analysis in financial mathematics.
  • Of particular merit for the position is documented academic expertise within the areas covered by the master programme profiles in finance and financial mathematics namely Financial markets and instruments, Financial risk management, Portfolio management, and Derivative valuation.
  • Of particular merit for the position is documented ability to attract external funding.

In terms of pedagogical expertise, the following will be assessed:

  • Requirements for the position is documented pedagogical expertise in advanced level teaching within the field of financial mathematics.
  • Of particular merit for the position is pedagogical expertise in development of new pedagogical methods and tools.

Of particular merit for the position is documented expertise in collaboration in research.

Where teaching and research is conducted in both Swedish and English, then you must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach and conduct research in English and it is desirable that within two years you can teach and conduct research in Swedish.
