The Centre for Cancer Genetic Epidemiology is one of the leading centres for research into the genetics of cancer. We are working with a team at the Cancer Research UK, Cambridge Institute to recruit a cohort of women with a moderate to high risk of developing breast cancer, in order to build a repository of blood samples that will enable the development of assays to detect circulating tumour (ctDNA) in early-stage cancer. You will be involved in the EMBED Study, a research study that forms part of a larger grant.
Applicants must be a Registered Nurse with current NMC registration, post registration experience and have strong grounding in research methodology and governance.
The role holder will primarily be based in the Cambridge Breast Unit and will work closely with the clinical team on site. They will be responsible for the recruitment of women into the study and obtaining venous blood samples. These women are booked into afternoon clinics at the Breast Unit therefore the availability to work afternoons is essential.
Excellent communication and organisation skills are required as the successful applicant will be expected to liaise with healthcare professionals and researchers across many sites. Applicants should have experience of working autonomously, dealing with members of the public and a willingness to work as part of a team.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (enhanced with children and adults’ barred lists). This appointment also requires NMC Registration, a Research Passport application and an Honorary Clinical Contract. Any offer of employment we make to you will be conditional upon the satisfactory completion of these checks, whether an outcome is satisfactory will be determined by the University.

This is a part-time position working 12 hours over 4 afternoons ¿ Monday to Thursday
You will predominantly be working within the Cambridge Breast Unit on the Cambridge University Hospitals Biomedical Campus however, the Department of Public Health and Primary Care at Strangeways Research Laboratory, Worts Causeway, Cambridge CB1 8RN will be responsible for your contract.
