has a job opening for an Assistant Professor.
The position is embedded within the section Clinical Psychology at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. It contains a standard combination of teaching activities (60%) and research activities (40%). In case you wish to focus your career on teaching, an 70% teaching and 30% research appointment is also possible, temporary or structural.
As an Assistant Professor you will be participating in teaching in the Bachelor’s programme in Psychology in the domains relevant to Clinical Psychology and the international Master’s programme in Clinical Psychology. Teaching involves (large-scale) lectures, (small-scale) instruction and individual supervision of clinical or research internships and research theses, along with more general coordination and administration activities.
Research within the Department of Clinical Psychology covers several research topics, including trauma, anxiety, prolonged grief, depression, suicidality, body image disturbance, and sexual health. Much of the research focuses on causes and underlying mechanisms of mental disorders and novel ways to predict and optimize treatment efficacy.
The research of the new Assistant Professor has a clear focus on anxiety and/or trauma.
Your core tasks include:
- Participating in teaching at a bachelor’s and master’s level. Teaching involves individual supervision; lectures and workgroups in clinically oriented courses;
- Coordination of parts of the curriculum;
- Participating in the research programme of the division;
- High-quality publications in international scientific journals;
- Contributing to the acquisition of external research funding for the benefit of one or more of the division’s research programmes.
For our education and research programmes, a clinical registration is desirable. This job position is open to those with a clinical orientation as well as those who are more research oriented and those who are strongly oriented towards a teaching career.

Qualifications
As our new Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology you meet the requirements below:
- You have (or have nearly obtained) a PhD degree in the field of Clinical Psychology, or a related field.
- You have experience in co-developing and co-coordinating academic courses.
- You hold a Basic Teaching Qualification external link (BKO) or are willing to acquire this qualification in the near future.
- You are fluent in spoken and written English and Dutch at an academic level; Non-Dutch applicants should be willing to acquire proficiency external link in Dutch within 2 years.
- You have scientific creativity and productivity, as evident in recent publications in international peer-reviewed journals or peer-reviewed conferences.
- You preferably have experience with experimental research.
- Clinical registration or work experience in mental health care is preferred but not required.
- You are a team player and have excellent social skills.

Offer
We offer a temporary position (0.8 – 1.0 FTE) for one year in an international working environment. After positive evaluation, this can be turned into a permanent position. The gross salary – depending on previous qualifications and experience – ranges between €3,974 and €6,181 (scale 11-12 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year.
