We are looking for a temporary lecturer to teach in the Master’s program in Digital Humanities and to actively contribute to the department’s research environment. The position is part-time (50%) during the spring semester 2025, with the possibility of full-time from the fall semester 2025.
At the Department of ABM, education is conducted at the advanced level in the master’s program in ABM (archival science, library and information science and museum and cultural heritage science) and in the master’s program in digital humanities. Furthermore, education is conducted at the doctoral level in library and information science. The department consists of about twenty teachers and researchers and eight PhD students. The Center for Digital Humanities Uppsala (CDHU) is linked to the department. CDHU is a center that supports researchers at Uppsala University in data management, data storage and digital methods and digital tools. Research engineers work at CDHU as well as a director, deputy director, research coordinators.
Duties
The tasks consist of teaching, research and administration. Teaching includes course responsibility, course administration, and examination mainly on the master’s program in digital humanities. Teaching on the Master’s program in ABM may also occur. Cooperation with CDHU is also included.
The teaching included in the tasks focuses mainly on basic programming skills, as well as basic and applied use of digital research methods to process text-based materials. The teaching also includes being able to apply broad and disciplinary multifaceted perspectives in digital humanities in a theoretical, practical and technically grounded way. It also includes promoting an in-depth and critical understanding of, and knowledge about, digital methods, digital source materials and digital research practices.
Teaching is mainly in English, but teaching in Swedish may occur.
Requirements
Eligible to be employed as a Deputy Senior Lecturer is a person who has a doctoral degree in digital humanities or in a subject area relevant to the duties. It is required that the pedagogical, scientific and professional skills are relevant to the subject content of the position and the tasks to be included in the position.
Eligibility requires the ability to teach in English. In addition, as a general eligibility requirement for teachers, the applicant must have the personal qualities required to perform the post well, such as flexibility, responsibility, good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.
Assessment criteria for applicants who meet the requirements
All qualifications must be documented so that both quality and scope can be assessed.
In the selection of eligible applicants, importance will be attached to both scientific and teaching skills as well as management and administrative skills. However, particular emphasis will be placed on scientific and pedagogical excellence.
Scientific excellence refers to research merit. In the assessment of the scientific scientific excellence will primarily take into account scientific quality. The scope of the research, in particular its depth and breadth, will also be taken into account. When assessing scientific competence, particular emphasis will be placed on research merits in the subject area of the position, i.e. digital humanities. Previous documented experience from multidisciplinary humanities research in the subject area of digital humanities and in the ABM disciplines, i.e. archival science, library and information science, and museum and cultural heritage science, is also meritorious. Furthermore, the ability to obtain competitive funding for research will be considered important.
Teaching excellence refers to educational and teaching qualifications. In addition to academic merit, educational and teaching merit from other activities, which include, for example, supervision, internal training or mentoring programs, can also be taken into account. When assessing pedagogical competence, pedagogical quality shall be taken into account in the first instance. Scope, both breadth and depth, shall also be taken into account. When assessing teaching skills, particular emphasis will be placed on the ability to teach applied digital research methods and tools. Meritorious is also documented experience of teaching in the ABM disciplines, i.e. archival science, library and information science and museum and cultural heritage science. In addition, documented experience of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teaching is meritorious.
Furthermore, the ability to link teaching to research in terms of research in the subject in question will be considered important.
Administrative, management and interpersonal skills are important for the position and the position and will be given weight. Administrative skills include the ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in an efficient and effective manner and the ability to set and meet deadlines. Skills include overall business planning and the ability to manage resources in a way that reflects business priorities, as well as the ability to work in a structured way with an awareness of objectives and quality.
