Research assistant

There is a vacancy for a 50 % position as Research Assistant at the Department of Social Anthropology. The position is for a fixed-term period of 1 year.

The Research Assistant position is part of a project titled, “Habitable Air: Urban Inequality in the Time of Climate Change.” The project, which begins in 2022 and ends in 2026, is funded by the Research Council of Norway’s Program for Groundbreaking Research. The project focuses on climate change and unequal distributions of pollution in South Africa, Germany, and the United States. Applicants with research experience in the topical and/or regional areas of the project are particularly encouraged to apply.

Research assistant is a recruitment position where the main task is to be a supporting entity to the academic staff in their instructional and research endeavors. The position will provide the opportunity to gain insight into scientific work and methodology. Total employment cannot exceed two years.

Qualifications and personal qualities:

  • The applicant must hold a master’s degree in social anthropology or the equivalent. The degree must be completed by the application deadline.
  • The requirements are generally a grade B or better for the degree in total.
  • As an applicant you should be able to work independently, have a considerable work capacity as well as an enthusiasm for project administration.
  • Website maintenance, social media, and/or web design experience preferred. 

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the department for an interview.

Proficiency in English is required.

  • Salary at pay grade 51 upon appointment (Code 1020) on the government salary scale (equivalent to NOK 478 300,- per year in a 100 % position).
