YOUR TEAM
You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where control experts, software, mechanical and electrical engineers collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research.
The Dynamic Legged Systems Research line (web: http://dls.iit.it) is coordinated by Claudio Semini, who has extensive experience in the design and control of quadruped robots.
The research focuses on locomotion over rough terrain, foothold planning, whole-body control, perception, loco-manipulation, machine learning, as well as the development of the next generation quadruped robots.
For this position, we are looking for a highly motivated and proactive engineer to play the important role of developing control technologies for the DLS robots aiming at reaching the technology readiness level (TRL) 6. This position has a major focus on the development, integration and testing of control algorithms ranging from the low-level actuators control to locomotion control.
Within the team, your main responsibilities will be to:
- Integrate with the team of technicians supporting day to day R&D and maintenance activities (debugging, testing, developing new concepts, improve robot performance).
- Continuous improvement of low and high level control algorithms, aiming at reaching TRL 6.
- Develop control strategies to increase robot efficiency and usability (e.g. safe robot/human interaction, self-packing, diagnostics, battery life, energy consumption etc).
- Develop software strategies to manage and mitigate critical conditions during operation (e.g. failure of devices, crash, loss of balance).
- Perform hardware prototype tests.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- A Master’s degree in Robotics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science
- Experience with real-time systems
- Experience with mechanical systems
- Knowledge on microcontrollers
- Strong experience with Gazebo, ROS and ROS Control
- Knowledge on embedded systems
- Knowledge on control system modelling
- Knowledge on classical and non-linear control theory
- Strong skills on C, C++ and Python
- Good command in spoken and written English
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
- Knowledge of on navigation systems and OpenCV.
- Good communication skills
- Strong problem-solving attitude
- High motivation to learn
- Spirit of innovation and creativity
- Good at time and priority management
- Ability/willingness to integrate within a multidisciplinary international research group
