ABOUT US
At IIT we work enthusiastically to develop human-centered Science and Technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society. Our Genoa headquarters are strictly interconnected with the other 11 centers around Italy and two outstations based in the US. We promote excellence in basic and applied research such as neuroscience and cognition, humanoid technologies and robotics, nanotechnology, materials for a truly multidisciplinary scientific experience.
YOUR TEAM
As Artificial and Mechanical Intelligence lab (https://ami.iit.it/) at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), we are seeking to appoint a full-time Software Engineer interested in the development of software infrastructures and architectures for flying humanoid robots specifically targeted for the iRonCub humanoid robot.
You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where biomedical, mechanical and electrical engineers, computational scientists’ experts collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research. You will be working more specifically on the cutting-edge robotics research on Aerial Humanoid Robotics, whose aim is to extend the locomotion capabilities of humanoid robots to the flight case. Beside this application, the developed software architectures will also be used in other research directions of the AMI lab, namely: the one that aims at giving humanoid robots the ability to help and collaborate with humans (https://ami.iit.it/research-axis/human-robot-collaboration), and that at giving humans the ability to exist in another place via humanoid robots (https://ami.iit.it/research-axis/telexistence). In a broader sense, the selected candidate will join the interdisciplinary ecosystem of the iCub project https://icub.iit.it/ to which the Artificial and Mechanical Intelligence lab contributes to.
The focus of the job is to develop software architectures for flying humanoid robots, while ensuring the continuous integration of existing code, algorithms, and methods for the jet-powered iRonCub. In a broader sense, the laboratory, led by Dr. Daniele Pucci, combines theoretical investigations with real-time practical implementation on real hardware and embedded electronics.
