Job Summary
The Metabolite Profiling Facility at Purdue University is seeking a Research Assistant to perform service research for investigators who need chemical characterization of various biological and chemical samples. The successful candidate will operate sophisticated high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry (MS) instrumentation, analyze data and summarize results, and train new users to operate instrumentation. The Research Assistant will have an opportunity to actively contribute to ongoing research projects, interact with research teams in the center, and contribute to the publication of experimental procedures and results.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, or related field
- One (1) year of experience with small molecule/protein/peptide biochemistry, including separations technologies such as gas chromatography and/or high-performance liquid chromatography, and experience with tracking and handling biospecimens and data entry in notebooks required
- Must have knowledge of general biology, molecular biology, and chemistry techniques
- Hands-on bench experience in a biology or chemistry lab setting
- Ability to independently operate analytical instrumentation and generate results
- Basic skills in communication, word processing, and data entry and the ability to run common computer applications (for example copy files, save, print, and backup documents)
- Working familiarity with Office software, especially Excel
Preferred:
- Hands-on experience with modern analytical instrumentation, preferably mass spectrometry
- Computer-based data analysis and data management experience
- Familiarity with literature searches to identify analysis procedures is valued
