Aalto University is where science and art meet technology and business. We shape a sustainable future by making research breakthroughs in and across our disciplines, sparking the game changers of tomorrow and creating novel solutions to major global challenges. Our community is made up of 12 000 students, 400 professors and close to 4 000 other faculty and staff working on our dynamic campus in Espoo, Greater Helsinki, Finland. Diversity is part of who we are, and we actively work to ensure our community’s diversity and inclusiveness. This is why we warmly encourage qualified candidates from all backgrounds to join our community.
Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis (http://math.aalto.fi/en/) at the Aalto School of Science is seeking
Postdoctoral Researchers in the general areas of Harmonic Analysis and PDEs, Dynamical Systems or Random Models
There will be 2 positions filled with each for up to 2 years. The postdoctoral researchers will join the research group of Tuomas Sahlsten (https://users.aalto.fi/~sahlstt1/ ), where there is an opportunity to work on some of our recent research problems related to Quantum Chaos from pure mathematics aspects. The topics are related to the study of eigenfunctions of Laplacians or quantum scattering theory on random Riemannian surfaces by adapting modern methods related to harmonic analysis, semiclassical analysis and PDEs, fractal geometry, additive combinatorics (multiscale methods, sum-product theory), hyperbolic and parabolic dynamics, random matrix theory and moduli spaces. The positions will be filled at the latest in December 2022.
Requirements
We look for scholars who are about to complete, or have completed within the past 5 years, their doctoral studies in a relevant field. Previous background in one or more of the following fields is preferred but not completely necessary: ergodic theory and dynamical systems, fractal geometry, additive combinatorics, analytic number theory (e.g. Maass forms, Eisenstein series), harmonic analysis, semiclassical analysis and PDEs, random matrix theory or related field of mathematics. We are also happy to look for applicants who are excited to learn and expand their previous fields of studies to these topics. General enthusiasm and past track record of trying to combine different aspects of mathematics even if not exactly related to these topics is considered an advantage. A good command of English is required, Finnish language is not.
We offer
The expected starting salary is approximately 3700 €/month. The contract includes occupational health care benefits and a holiday bonus.
