The Department of Computer Science is an internationally-oriented community and home to world-class research in modern computer science, combining research on foundations and innovative applications. With over 40 professors and more than 450 employees from 45 countries, it is the largest department at Aalto University and the largest computer science unit in Finland. We are now looking for a
Doctoral Candidate to join the Aalto Systems and Services Engineering Analytics (AaltoSEA) Group.
Your role and goals
We are looking for a Doctoral Candidate for IoT, Edge, and Cloud services engineering research, especially systems and analytics for ML/big data across IoT, Edge, Cloud and HPC continuum (monitoring, analysis, observability, experiments, explainability) to achieve robustness, reliability, resilience and elasticity for ML/big data systems. This research direction spans across networked systems and services, serving engineering and machine learning.
Your network and team
The Aalto Systems and Services Engineering Analytics (AaltoSEA) Group concentrates and consolidates research activities, resources, results, and collaborations on foundational principles, concepts and techniques for service engineering analytics of distributed software systems and services, big data applications, machine learning systems and IoT
Your experience and ambitions
- eligible for PhD study at Aalto University (https://into.aalto.fi/display/endoctoralsci/How+to+apply#Howtoapply-Eligibility)
- excellent knowledge in edge and cloud computing
- very good in scientific writing and communication skills
- very good knowledge about tools and techniques for engineering analytics (monitoring, observability)
- very good knowledge in big data, data science and possible ML techniques
- very good programming skills (e.g., in Java, Python, GoLang and/or JavaScript/TypeScript)
What we offer
By working in our group you would get the possibility to join a top notch research environment in edge-cloud, big data/ML for large scale software systems and also have a strong collaboration with other research groups in Aalto and EU. You would be able to travel for visits or exchanges with other world class research groups outside Finland.
We offer a two-year fixed-term contract with the possibility for two years extension, during which you will be working towards your Doctoral dissertation in one of the top universities in Nordic countries (https://www.aalto.fi/en/aalto-university/rankings). The employment is full-time and paid position with high level occupational health care. Starting monthly salary in the position is 2600 euros.
