The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar to study the roles of vascular smooth muscle cells in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension, abdominal aortic aneurysm, atherosclerosis, and vascular aging.
Our lab belongs to the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a highly collaborative, supportive academic environment and leading-edge core facilities. Calgary is a cosmopolitan Alberta city with a population of 1.2 million sitting beside the Rocky Mountain. It is the third-most populous city in Canada and the most populous city in Western Canada.
Job Description:
The projects will use genetically modified mouse models with smooth muscle-specific gene inactivation. Vascular tissue myograph and primary smooth muscle cell culture will also be routine methods for the phenotypic characterization pertaining to vascular diseases.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a research background in vascular or smooth muscle biology or pathology. Experience in computational biology is considered an asset.
