Course description:
This advanced project-based language course introduces practical uses of spoken and written Mandarin Chinese in business contexts. The course emphasizes critical thinking skills in reading and writing, and focuses on developing students’ ability in writing argumentative essay and conducting oral presentation in formal settings. This course also prepares students for job applications through in-class workshops and follow-up activities and assignments.

Class schedule: LEC0101 Monday 11:00 – 14:00; LEC0201 Wednesdays 11-14:00
(NOTE: All courses at UofT Mississauga will be delivered in-person in the Fall 2022 session. In keeping with current circumstances, the course delivery method may change as determined by the University).
Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2022-December 31, 2022
Salary:
Sessional Lecturer I – $8489.67 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer I Long Term – $8869.25 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer II – $9085.58 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer III – $9301.90 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Minimum qualifications: Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in East Asian Studies or related field. Native or near-native Chinese language fluency expected. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and experience teaching a similar course at the university level is an asset.
Preferred qualifications:
Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.
Description of duties:
All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; out-of-class interactions with students via e-mail and office hours; development, administration and marking of online assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; order all necessary readings.
